Before joining Saffron, I held the position of Design Director at Wolff Olins in San Francisco and New York, where I oversaw brand development and identity solutions for clients including Citibank, the City of New York, Knoll, San Francisco’s Legion of Honor Museum, General Electric, Washington Mutual Bank, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Product(RED), and Visa.
I also spent several years as a Design Director at Apple Computer, where I designed packaging (the first PowerBook G4, Power Mac G5, iSight Camera, and OSX Panther) and directed a major update to the company’s corporate identity when Apple changed their typeface from the classic Garamond to the more austere Myriad—a decision that affected every piece of the company’s collateral.
My design career started at MetaDesign in San Francisco, where I developed two-dimensional designs for Niketown Honolulu and in-store design systems for Nike stores in Melbourne and Toronto. After three years at MetaDesign I went on to co-found Method, where, as Creative Director, I oversaw corporate identity, interactive design, and web design for such clients as Adobe, Autodesk, MSN, the Film Society of Lincoln Center (NY), Gucci, and MoMA.
Another passion of mine is typeface design, for which I’ve won several international awards—most recently for FF Kievit, which is used by entities ranging from Autodesk, Gensler and Olympus to Germany’s Christian Democratic Union. While at Wolff Olins I was also deeply involved in the design of General Electric’s new corporate typeface Inspira, and in my spare time I continue to develop, refine, and release new typefaces (FF Milo, FF Milo Serif).
I have also received numerous prestigious and international awards for a range of graphic design solutions. Believing it is important to mentor the next generation of designers, I have taught at the San Francisco Academy of Art and Art Center College of Design (at night), and been invited to lecture at Sweden’s Hyper Island School for New Media.
